30 Day Positivity Challenge

By -

Have you ever had malware on your computer?  If you let it sit or, even worse, keep opening it over and over – it’s going to infest your entire system and next thing you know more virus windows start popping up. Eventually nothing will work except those negative programs. Now, imagine that computer is your mind. You let one bad, annoying thought sit and simmer. Next thing you know you start to see negativity everywhere you look. Eventually your mood becomes dark and everything angers you. That is how I’ve felt lately.

Because of some trying circumstances, heavy work load and other less than positive things – I’ve allowed my mind to simmer in annoyance and found myself gravitating toward more and more negativity. The worst area for this is online. When I’m on Facebook I feel like all I see is people complaining, annoyed, angry and shouting ON THEIR KEYBOARDS. So what do I do? I post a status talking about ‘those people’. But, what I’ve actually done is just add to the problem. I used negativity to call out other negativity.

It’s not working.

So, I’ve decided to dare myself  to complete a 30 Day Positivity Challenge. I will only post positive (or neutral) things online for 30 days. No tragic news links. No politics. No complaints. Not even fussing about my email deleting something important.

I want to retrain my mind to be attracted to the good things and ignore the bad.

I’ve tried this once before – and failed miserably. You don’t realize how hard it is to refrain from kvetching until you try to stop completely. It seems like the moment you announce “I’m going to be happy!” things start working against you…..or so you think. This time I will not fail. I want my friends, readers and followers to hold me accountable. If you see me post something that is “down in the mouth” (as my mother use to say) – tell me to stop it! Remind me of my challenge. Tell me I’m a dork. Whatever works.

Things will always happen to us that make us upset, sad or angry. There’s nothing wrong with feeling those emotions. But, I’m going to do my part to stop spreading them. I’m hoping it will inspire others to do the same. Won’t you join me?

  1. Saw that April shared your post on FB and I think this is a wonderful challenge… and right on point for where I’m at in my life… trying to make changes for the positive as I move forward with some big decisions. So I’m totally on board for trying this out. Let’s do it! Together! A group is always stronger than an individual! :)

  2. It’s so true that thoughts become things. I prefer to stick my head in the ground when it comes to the hard stuff in life – so far it’s worked 75% of the time. Good luck and lots of positive vibes!

That’s a wonderful idea! I’m all for positive thinking and a healthy outlook on life. It’s amazing how much negativity found on social networks ect.. can affect us emotionally. I for one don’t want my mood for the day determined by another person’s bad day or experience.
