Anti-Aging Tips and Tricks that Won’t Break the Bank

By Kenda -

As we get older, our skin starts rebelling. Some of us experience a resurgence of acne that we thought we left behind with high school; others start noticing fine lines and wrinkles that weren’t there just a year or two ago. So instead of heading off to the aesthetician for expensive injections or buying high-end skin creams that may not even work, here are a few tips and tricks to help combat the effects of sun damage, smoking, and just general aging skin.

  1. Hydrate!  Drinking plenty of fluids is key to cultivating dewy skin, among its many other benefits. Maintaining proper hydration levels flushes out toxins and helps us in so many ways – however, make sure you hydrate with water, not sugar sodas. If water is boring to you, try adding a lemon wedge or slice of cucumber.
  2. Moisturize! As you may have noticed, wrinkles tend to be more easily seen on dry skin. Keep your skin moisturized with an anti-aging specific product that contains plenty of vitamins and minerals.  Drug store brands often contain some of the same ingredients as high-end department  store brands. And of course, don’t forget to purchase a moisturizer that contains a high level of SPF, as well. You may not be able to undo sun damage, but you can certainly prevent it.
  3. Exfoliate! Some of us are afraid of exfoliating, and we really shouldn’t be. It’s an incredible way to remove dead, dull skin and reveal younger-looking skin underneath. You can purchase exfoliating scrubs and kits online or at the drug store. For an even deeper exfoliation, try microdermabrasion. Once relegated to the spa, you can now practice microdermabrasion at home, thanks to new kits and products that save you tons of cash.  Look for trusted microdermabrasion products online at retailers like ShopNBC.
  4. Prevent! As mentioned earlier, sunscreen is crucial to halting the sun’s harsh effects. In addition, try to wean yourself from other bad habits that can age your skin: lack of sleep, smoking, heavy drinking, and just plain not eating well. You’d be surprised what a few weeks of green veggies and a full night’s sleep can do!

So to turn back the clock on your skin, don’t rely on the beauty counter at that high-end cosmetics retailer, or your aesthetician.  There are so many DIY ways restore your youthful glow!
