Teen Driving – Imagine 5 At Once!

By -

When State Farm® asked me if I’d like to share with you about teen driving I thought about it for exactly three seconds. It was only THE topic in this house for over two years. The day my oldest son turned 14 he began talking about driving. Those of you with teens know how it goes.

Son: I’m almost 16. That means I can drive. Woo hoo!
Me: No, you’re almost 15. That’s not 16.
Son: But I need to start learning at 15 so that’s still driving.
Me: When 15 is almost over THEN you can practice driving. Only in parking lots and only with your father. I’ll let you drive my car when you’re 20.
Son: So…. when are you buying me a car?

This went on throughout the next two years. He did, in fact, get to try out his skills with his dad in deserted parking lots. But, the most miraculous thing happened! Mr. I Can’t Wait To Drive stopped talking about driving…when he found out he has to pay for driving school. So his 16th birthday has come and gone and he’s perfectly happy walking or taking the bus. He’s also perfectly happy keeping his money in his pocket. I’m okay with that.

Those of you who have been through this can understand my relief. Now, can you imagine having to deal with FIVE children wanting to drive at the same time? Five times the stress. Five times the ‘THAT’S NOT REVERSE THAT’S FORWARD!’. Well, the Jansen family knows exactly how it goes.

QUINTUPLETS! I feel faint. How do they do it? Luckily they have a lot of patience and a little help from State Farm®. You can check out their blog: http://5willdrive.com/ Mom and Dad are going to have quite the adventure with Elijah, Taylor, Miranda, Nick and Carter.

Do you have kids that are eager to drive? Maybe you’ve got some great Driver’s Ed stories. Share them with us!
