Have you ever thought about all of the different products you buy for your home with the intent of cleaning something? We buy laundry detergent. Shampoo. Soap. Stainless steel cleaner. Glass cleaner. Dish soap. Bathroom tile cleaner. And so many more job specific cleaners that at the end of the month you have probably spent†a small fortune on cleaning products.
Now, of course, you want your home to be clean. We all know that lingering germs can cause illness and it’s nice to have a product specifically formulated to make quick work of a certain undesirable cleaning job. And if it saves you time it might be worth the added expense, especially for a busy mom.
But some of the products we use in these situations don’t save time, and one in particular is one of those products that we all use without even questioning if we need to bother with it.
Dishwasher Rinse Aid
Depending upon the type of water you have in your home, dishwasher rinse aid is a necessary evil. But do you really need to buy it?
Do you even have any idea of what is in rinse aid and why it works?
Ok, you may not care WHY it works only that is does.
But what if I told you that you don’t need store bought rinse aid? What if I told you you can make your own rinse aid for pennies on the dollar with completely natural ingredients?
And it really doesn’t take any more time than pouring the store-bought stuff into the dispenser.

What you need:
- White vinegar or 3% hydrogen peroxide
- Lemon essential oils
Instructions:
Simply fill your rinse aid dispenser with the white vinegar or peroxide then add 4-5 drops of the†lemon†essential oil. Some people warn against the acidity of vinegar affecting the dispenser seals, so they recommend the peroxide. I’ve been using it for over a year now without a problem. Another option is to place a small cup of vinegar and lemon essential oil on the top rack of the dishwasher instead of in the dispenser.
Lemon essential oil has a strong, purifying citrus scent. It contains†dlimonene which is an antioxidant. It works as a natural cleaner and is a safe†alternative to harsh chemical cleaners. It will help freshen your dishes and dishwasher and may remove stubborn stains.
You could also use lavender, pine, cinnamon, Purification or Thieves oils from Young Living. All have cleansing properties.
Vinegar and peroxide are available pretty much anywhere. Young Living essential oils†are high quality and backed up by Young Living’s Seed to Seal Promise that guarantees purity and authenticity.
