As healthy as my family attempts to be we still love our pizza. Living in the North East you can find every style, crust, topping and more — if you want it, we’ve got it. So, I have to say our pizza tastes are finely tuned. When Bzzagent asked me to try the new Pizza Ristorante from Dr. Oetker my family was all aboard.
Weekends are our ‘pizza time’ since that is when everyone is home and we have time to sit around the table, share what happened with each of us that week and enjoy some good (if naughty) pizza. We selected the Pizza Spinaci (sun-ripened tomatoes, savoury leaf spinach, mozzarella and garlic sauce) and the Pizza Speciale (pepperoni, cooked ham, edam, mozzarella and spicy herbs).
What We Liked
- Both varieties were delicious. The Spinaci was our favorite with tasty (not overbearing) spinach, rich garlic flavors and an awesome roasted flavor to the cheeses. The Speciale was also very flavorful and my son, who normally doesn’t care for ham on his pizza, said the flavor was just right.
- Fresh, chunky ingredients – toppings on both pizzas were plentiful and didn’t cook down like many brands. The overall appearance of the pizza improved even more so after baking where some pizzas look like just a hot mess of cheese and mystery items.
- Crunchy crust – the crust was buttery and crunchy. It didn’t harden up or become burnt on the edges.
What We Didn’t Like
- These pizzas are WAY too small. As you can see from the images below, the pizza is around 8″ and a slice was small enough that we didn’t have to cut it down for our 2 year old. It was literally ‘child size’ already. Our family of 2 adults, 1 teen and 1 toddler were left hungry after eating two of these pizzas.
- Price – These pizzas cost around $5.00 a piece. The two pizzas we ate would have been an $11.00 snack. For the SAME price we can get a two topping Large pizza at our local pizzaria – baked fresh.

We won’t be purchasing Dr. Oetker’s pizzas in the future unless they improve both the size and cost. It’s a shame because the flavor and quality are fantastic.
