My husband and I can amass a huge pile of paperwork. From order receipts to bill payments – the basket fills up fast. This year we got a great present: Fellowes asked me to review a new POWERSHRED 73Ci and share it with you. I think my husband was even more excited than I was (his trash pile is a little bigger than mine).

Did you know that Fellowes invented the personal paper shredder in 1990? They also hold the patent on 100% Jam Proof technology. The Fellowes POWERSHRED 73Ci continues that legacy with a stylish new design with cutting-edge technologies including:

– 100% Jam Proof System that eliminates paper jams and powers through tough jobs
– A proprietary Energy Savings System which maximizes shredder energy savings 100% of the time – both in use and out of use
– Capacitive touch screen controls
– Heavy-duty Cross-Cut blades that destroy a single sheet of paper into 397 particles, making it nearly impossible to piece back together
– Handles both credit cards and cds/dvds

The POWERSHRED 73Ci is quieter than other shredders we’ve had and has a 10 minute run time before you have to take a break. You can also cut up to 12 sheets at once. Our last shredder promised 10 sheets, but rarely could handle it without a paper jam. It uses cross-cut which ensures no one will be putting your trash back together like a jigsaw puzzle when you aren’t looking and it comes with a 5 year warranty on the cutter.

My favorite part: SafeSense® Technology. With a four year old around the house you never know where his little fingers will go. The 73Ci has a special sensor that can tell when a hand comes in contact with the paper slot and it will automatically stop. The 6 gallon collection bin is also a plus. Line the bin with one of the included bags and you can shred longer and cleaner. No more messy dumping after only 2 or 3 uses.

The POWERSHRED 73Ci is on the heavier side, outweighing many of the smaller personal shredders. However, unlike other shredders we’ve owned that had to be picked up and carried from place to place, the 73Ci has wheels that easily snap on and off. Fill it up and wheel it over to your recycling bin. Thanks to Fellowes, if someone wants to rummage through our trash this year – all they’ll get is a soggy pizza box.

The 73Ci is available at office superstores and their online counterparts for a suggested retail price of $199.99.
