FUDGING IT : FIBS I TELL MY KIDS [+GIVEAWAY]

SOMETIMES I BEND THE TRUTH...BUT IT'S FOR THE GREATER GOOD

By Kenda -

This post was brought to you by Mott’s and The Motherhood. All opinions are my own.

As a parent, I try to instill core values in my children. Things like honesty, kindness, manners… but, as we all know, parenting doesn’t come with an instruction manual. We aren’t perfect and that means sometimes we’re going to mess up, need to think outside of the box, or even fudge a little ourselves. Parenting fibs have a long-standing tradition as being a quick way out of a sticky situation. We may have to bend the truth sometimes, but it’s really for the greater good.

See this action hero down below? He’s a handful, to say the least, and when he has something in his head he’s not going to give it up without a fight. Most of the time we sit down and talk it through, but other times I just don’t have any fight left in me for the day and he gets a “Mom Truth”.  You want to paint at 9:00 at night? Oh, sorry… paints don’t work after 7 pm.  (okay maybe not that bad… But I get close)

My Mom “Truth” Confessions

  • If I don’t like an app on his tablet it will suddenly disappear the next day. “Hmm… I guess the company took it offline to fix it. We’ll check again tomorrow”
  • If he wants to go to the park at 7:00 am Sunday morning I tell him it’s not “open” until 9:00. One day he’s going to realize there is no fence.
  • I used to tell him allergy medicine was Super Hero Juice so he’d take it without fussing.  I have no idea what “Super Hero Juice” is… but it worked.
  • I used to paraphrase long books at bedtime. Now he’s learning to read so I don’t get off so easy.
  • The free candy on the restaurant counter? Oh sorry…those cost $100 each. Maybe next time.
  • “You never have the same bad dream twice”  So far, I’m right. Fingers crossed.

Maybe I’m wrong, maybe I’m right. But in the end – I’m not perfect. No parent is. We handle what comes at us the best we can with what we have: Creativity, enthusiasm, and a few tricks up our sleeve.

Mott’s understands that, and they’ve launched the Good & Honest Campaign. They know that parents sometimes have to go with the flow and they want to celebrate your efforts at being the best parent you can be every day. They want to bring parents together so they can share a laugh and acknowledge that we’re all in this together (no matter how you explain why your child’s drum set mysteriously disappeared).

One thing I don’t need to fudge about is how much we enjoy Mott’s applesauce and 100% juice choices. One of our favorites is the Strawberry Applesauce Snack & Go pouches. These portable snack packs are loaded with only good stuff: apple and strawberry puree, water, fruit juice, natural flavors and an excellent source of Vitamin C. I love that they don’t contain any added sugar. When my five year old wants something “sweet” I don’t have to invent a sugar fairy that stole all the candy…I just hand him a Mott’s Snack & Go – he’s happy. Mom is happy.
