My hair is a little…crazy. So, when Vocalpoint sent me the new InStyler MAX 2-Way Rotating Iron, I was more than happy to take it for a test drive.
Frequently I hear, “Oh I wish I had your curls!” and I just nod and smile. I used to try and explain why they are a curse and not a blessing, but it’s the whole grass greener on the other side…thing. Unless you have wavy, curly, crazy hair – you don’t realize that I don’t wake up with romance novel curls bouncing as I drink my coffee. I’m less Rapunzel and more Medusa.

Beautiful, right? Maybe if I was in a gingerbread house and luring small children into my stove. Otherwise, not so amazing. So why don’t I learn to love my curls? I probably would IF all of my hair actually curled. But, it doesn’t. I have alternating areas of curl and board straight hair. My head doesn’t know what it wants to do, so I have to make the choice for it. I choose straight. That’s where tools like the InStyler MAX become my best friends.

I currently own three flat irons. I have this weakness of needing every aspect of hair straightening, but most irons don’t offer everything at once. I have one that is the perfect size for travel, but it’s only big enough for touch ups or days when my hair is mostly straight to begin with. I have another large model that is a workhorse and can straighten even the most stubborn curls, but it’s not for wet hair. So, my third hot iron is a wet/dry that I paid over $200 for. That one is severely wide so you can’t create that soft curl or flip at the ends. Can you feel my frustration? It’s real…and expensive.

I’d seen commercials on television about InStyler. I admit, I thought it was just another late night infomercial and never paid much attention to it. Spinning brushes? Hot roller? I had no idea why those things would make such a huge difference. I learned the answer very quickly.
InStyler has changed my hair experience. I still can’t snap my fingers and have board straight locks, but the MAX comes pretty darn close.

InStyler MAX Features
4 Heat settings up to 425° / 2-Way Heated Rotating Barrel to both straighten and curl as desired / Ionic Bristles separate and align your hair and prevent the ‘flat’ iron effect while adding shine and reducing frizz / Black Tourmaline Ceramic Smoothing Plate is curved to cradle your hair against the barrel and avoid crushing or creasing your hair / 30 Second Rapid Heat-up for the days you just don’t have a moment to spare / Automatic Safety Shut-off / Heat guard… because we’ve all been burned once (or twice) *Also includes an attachable cool tip for better control and a heat-resistant pad to protect your vanity or counter top.

I knew within the first two minutes that I was going to really like the InStyler MAX. From the first swipe of my hair, I could see a difference.
- Gone was that dreaded ‘crushed hair’ look that I have to brush out with my other flat irons. My hair came out of the MAX looking ten times better than it did going in. I didn’t even need to style it afterwards – the ionic bristles did the work for me.
- My hair was soft, shiny and had body. When was the last time your flat iron gave your hair BOUNCE? Mine never have. If anything, I had to deal with limp hair if I wanted straight hair.
- I didn’t have to work nearly as hard separating and combing out my hair while straightening it. You do need to make sure your hair section isn’t wider than the barrel – of course – but I could practically grab some hair and roll it through without much planning.
- I automatically got that soft flip under at the ends of my hair, thanks to having a heated barrel instead of a flat plate.
Only one side note: This bad boy is heavy. If you’re used to feather-light flat irons that fit in your purse, this is going to be a change. But trust me when I say, your morning hair ritual will be so much shorter that you won’t care at all about the extra ounces.

Maybe I need to pay better attention to late night commercials, because I absolutely love my InStyler MAX. Now…if I can just find something to handle this out of control winter static problem! I know I have an electrifying personality, but…
