Work & Play With Intel Tablets

By Kenda -

As much as I love my workhorse desktop, I can’t always sit in my office. Life demands that we go and move and do. Unfortunately, work doesn’t always wait. With Intel Tablets you don’t have to worry as much about juggling work with play – both are in the palm of your hand. No matter if you’re searching showtimes for family movie night, watching a recipe video while you try something new for dinner or putting out an unexpected work fire at the coffee shop – with the power of Intel processors, you can check off everything on your to-do list.

Sometimes the hardest part of becoming a tablet owner is knowing what apps to start with. Here are my favorite apps for both work and play to help get you started.

My Favorite Apps for Work

  • WORDPRESS – blogging
WordPress for Android puts the power of publishing in your hands, making it easy to create and consume content. Write, edit, and publish posts to your site, check stats, and get inspired with great posts in the Reader. No matter if you’re on a self hosted WP site or WordPress.com, this app has you covered.
  • PIXLR EXPRESS – photo editing
Pixlr Express is a fun and powerful photo editor that lets you quickly crop, rotate, and fine-tune any picture, all in a completely ad-free experience. Choose from over 2 million combinations of free effects, overlays, and borders to further personalize your image. Pixlr Express makes editing photos for work or personal, a breeze.
  • BUFFER – Social Media Scheduling
Buffer is the easiest way to share on Twitter, Facebook, Google+ and LinkedIn when you’re away from your desk. Schedule your updates to post at optimal times, whether you’re around or not.
  • GOOGLE KEEP – Notes, clips and lists
This app is actually a crossover between work and personal tasks. I can quickly capture notes and reminders. I can even speak a voice memo on the go and have it automatically transcribed. Photos, receipts, documents and more can be kept in one handy place so I can keep track of what’s going on during the week.

My Favorite Apps for Play

  • NETFLIX
I love catching up on my favorite tv shows and grabbing a movie while I’m multitasking. I can be cooking dinner or just soaking in the tub; Netflix on my tablet means I can catch up with my favorite shows at the same time.
  • PINTEREST
The number one app to find resources, tutorials, recipes and more.  It’s the world’s biggest collection of everybody’s favorite things.
  • COOKPAD
Cookpad is an unique cooking community app where people post recipes and pictures. It’s your personal recipe composer. After cooking your recipe, other people can post the photo of their own attempt of making the recipe and others can comment.
  • POLYVORE
Polyvore makes it fun and easy to find inspiration for fashion on the go. Browse, buy and style products from all your favorite stores and get endless ideas from our community.
  • REDDIT
I love my Reddit app for so many reasons. View breaking news, funny gifs, original artwork, breathtaking photography and more.

  • Go wireless: Stay connected to wireless hotspots with built-in Wi-Fi and conveniently pair up to your wireless peripheral devices with Bluetooth technology.
  • All-day battery: Never slow down to recharge with up to 8 hours of active battery life. **see review notes below
  • Pre-installed with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean: This smooth, intuitive OS is easy to customize and provides access to tons of apps from Google Play.

The Venue 8 doesn’t have any problem loading up your favorite apps and delivering them in excellent quality thanks to the Intel processor. However, I wish the camera performed better and I’ve never been able to get a full 8 hours of out the battery as promised – my typical usage is more like 5 hours max. That being said, the Venue 8 does a decent job for an 8″ tablet under $200 and would be well suited for light usage at home, stops while traveling or general recreation; especially for a teen.
