Add Japanese Flair to Your Kitchen

I’m ever on the hunt for Japanese decor for my home. While I go for an overall modern appearance, I love to accent that with Asian flair. The one area of my home that has been lacking where this is concerned is the kitchen. While I cook Asian cuisine frequently, the decor itself was rather plain. I recently found a perfect starting piece while browsing UncommonGoods.com — the Udon Noodle Bowl.

Some of my favorite meals to prepare are stir fry and noodles or soups. They’re perfect for a healthy lunch or a light dinner. Often, in the day time, I find myself cooking for just me and my toddler. He loves to share with me while we sit outside on the porch or watch our favorite afternoon cartoons. As any parent knows, a wide bowl sitting in your lap isn’t always the best dish for that situation. The Udon Noodle Bowl is created in a way that makes eating your meal easier and more comfortable — not to mention more spill proof. If you keep a list of gift ideas, this would be a great addition!

The Udon bowl is a tall, deep bowl that enables you to hold it with one hand thanks to the handle on the side. Think of it as a coffee cup for your dinner. You slip your thumb through the handle and the rest the bowl in your palm. This is great for when you need the other hand to wrangle a playful toddler or keep the bowl close to you while you sip a hot miso soup. If you’re using it for a stir fry or noodle dish it also comes with chopsticks that you can slide into the built in chop stick rests on the top of the bowl. No more scrambling to find a place to set them when you need to reach for your drink.

The bowls are very sturdy and the base is flat and wide so there’s little risk of tipping when you set it down. I also found that the ceramic kept my food warm longer than a plastic or glass bowl. I love the colors as well — mine is Olive (shown above). But you can also get them in Black Bean, Tofu, Aubergine, Pacific, Butter and Shiitake to match any kitchen design.

As a bonus, black lacquer bamboo chopsticks are also included. These lead-free hand glazed bowls are made in the USA.

I have a noodle bowl in white which I really love, but these other colors are so wonderful!
