This post is brought to you by Scholastic and Energizer, sponsors of the 2015 Summer Reading Challenge
Reading has always been a valued activity in our family. That’s actually an understatement; it’s a huge part of all of us. From the oldest to the youngest, books have helped us imagine, learn, and everything in between. You can’t go through a room in our house without seeing several full book cases, and that includes both of our boys’ rooms. While my 17 year old has his love of reading fully established, the five year old is just beginning. He’s always enjoyed his story time at bed, but now he’s starting to read on his own and it’s a whole new world. That’s why I want to do everything I can to make sure his fascination with reading never ends.

Part of keeping the magic alive is making the experience as fun and unique as possible. He loves games. He loves counting his score and seeing how much farther he can go each time. Why not incorporate that with reading? A Reading Challenge is fun, constructive and rewards young readers for their accomplishments. We’ve already done the weekly reading challenge for his kindergarten class, and now we’ve joined the Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge as well.
“Power Up & Read” Summer Reading Challenge with Scholastic and Energizer®
This year’s challenge theme is “Power Up & Read,” encouraging kids to read all summer long and unlock 12 original short stories by bestselling children’s authors as kids reach reading milestones. Scholastic has joined together with ENERGIZER® to power the Summer Reading Challenge and encourage families to find innovative ways to discover the power and joy of reading. Parents can sign up kids now through September 4, 2015.

For this promotion, we received an amazing collection of children’s books and printables. Now, you don’t get books for joining the challenge BUT you do get a fantastic reading list so you don’t find yourself running out of readable ideas. Your child can also create a (safe) account on the Scholastic challenge website that allows them to not only keep track of their reading minutes through the summer, but also compete in mini challenges to earn badges and bragging rights. Parents can grab printables as well so that reading becomes interactive for the whole family.
