As a work at home mother, I just want to say one thing: It’s not all it’s cracked up to be. The days are long when you don’t have the silence of an office, children shouting at you while you try to make phone calls and you have to stop writing every 10 minutes because you just spotted another puddle of apple juice on the floor. One guaranteed way to beat the cabin fever is to move the playtime, and work, outside. Even then it takes some preparation. I pack up a big beach bag full of snacks, phone, laptop, charger in case the laptop dies, towels for the pool, sunblock, hat, change of clothes (you are not going to drip through my hallway!), and plenty of cold drinks. About twenty minutes later we’re finally ready to move out to the patio. Then it takes more time to pull it all out of the bag, open the table umbrella, fill the pool and water table, put on the sunblock… you get where I’m going with this.
This time I had a special treat to rev my late-day engine: Sweet & Creamy Iced Coffee K-cups from Green Mountain Coffee. I popped one of the Donut Shop ‘Regular’ flavor cups into my Keurig (they come in Regular and Nutty Hazelnut), brewed it over ice and I was ready to go. Being able to whip up a cup of coffee in a few seconds while chasing down a half naked child screaming about pool time is a wonderful thing. Sugar? Already in there. Cream? Yep, it’s got that too.
Ice. Cup. Brew. Done. Hallelujah.

It’s hard to explain why I love coffee so much. I’ve tried. I can’t get past blabbering about “mmmmm coffee…yes…more please”. But I do know that an iced coffee on a hot day is magical. Especially when I’m trying to work in the baking sun while I wrangle an (almost) 3 year old so he doesn’t write on the patio blocks with a bath crayon.

Who says you can’t enjoy an iced coffee with a turkey and bacon wrap? It was so good. I had to pace myself so that I’d have enough coffee to last through the entire sandwich.

Little man had his apple juice, but was that good enough? Noooo. He just had to try a sneak grab for my coffee. No sir…don’t think so. He had enough yesterday. He climbed over the living room gate and snagged my K-cup basket from the dining room table. By the time I caught the smell of coffee in the air he’d already ripped open 2 of them and was eating the mix. Yes, really. Thankfully it was the basket where I put only decaf and cider cups. Otherwise I’d have had the Tasmanian Devil to contend with for the next 4 – 6 hours. I don’t even want to think about that.

You notice that cup didn’t stay full for long, right? Yep. That’s my only problem with coffee: it never lasts around me. Luckily I always have more.
