I Know It’s Not Tuesday {Just Write}

By -

Joining this writing group is all about writing freely on Tuesdays. I know today is not Tuesday. If I waited until next week I would probably not write this at all. I tend to be that type who writes a note, sticks it somewhere and then decides against the idea by the time the due date rolls around. I don’t even know why. So, I’m writing now … and it will probably be painful because I’m use to having a structured goal for my posts. Don’t throw things at me.

I’m distracted by my desk while I type.  It’s full of junk. I could probably get by with my keyboard, monitor and water bottle – yet I’ve got 20 other things mixed in. They say your work space represents your current state of mind. If so, then my brain is chaos and I’m trying to do too many things at once. I can’t deny the connection.  Unfortunately, it’s caused by things I don’t need to take on. As silly as it sounds, Facebook is a constant source. (And yes, that IS silly) I had started a hiatus from it only two days ago; weary from all of the government shutdown arguments. Then Martha Stewart Gate happened and sucked me right back in. How ridiculous is that? To walk away from something as important as the government shutting down only to fall prey to blogger discord. At first it was the actual incident that sparked my reaction – I admit it. I could totally see how people felt snubbed. People warned me, “This is going to get ugly” and I didn’t listen. I wanted to have faith that we could handle this. Now, not even a full day later, and I see the cresting of the wave.

Within a few hours there were plenty of well thought out posts from varying view points. I agreed with some, disagreed with others. But I could admire the professionalism put into all of them. Now the train of rage is beginning. Not that other bloggers don’t have a right to speak their minds – your blog, your rules. This isn’t about censorship, it’s about monotony vs effectiveness. Everything you could say about the interview has been said. Support the posts you agree with by leaving a comment or sharing with others, but there’s no reason for 200 other bloggers to start writing up their own ‘Letter to Martha’. I haven’t even glanced at Twitter. I’m afraid. The fussing between bloggers on Facebook is enough. It seems like a situation that should unite bloggers has, instead, divided us. Again.

I know people (both bloggers and non bloggers) who have this amazing ability to filter out the things that stress them. They never talk politics, religion or outrage. Some are able to drop one, simple statement of their viewpoint and then move on. I watch them with envy. I don’t want to be silent about my opinions – they are part of who I am. But, I don’t want to let arguments with people I have never met ruin my day either. It is not easy to balance on that fence. Be it Martha or government mayhem – how do you express yourself without stressing yourself? How do you support those you work with, yet stay off the front lines?

I have no idea.
But, I do know how to clean my desk so I’ll just start there.

How do you personal bloggers do this? This was a struggle for me. Kudos to the bloggers who do this every day because it’s going to be hard for me to just push the publish button for this kind of thing once a week.

You can throw things now.
