M&M Has No Idea What Candy Corn Tastes Like

By -

I love the fall. Leaves, the smell of fireplaces around the neighborhood and Halloween candy. I love candy corn. Now, I’m sure some of you also like it and some of you absolutely hate it. It’s one of those food phenomenons  where there is no in between: love or hate.  But I’m also partial to which kind I eat. I only buy Brach’s Candy Corn; get that other fake stuff out of my face. So, you’d think a big dog in the candy industry, like MARS, could at least come close to the iconic flavor…right?

I came across the new Candy Corn M&Ms while at CVS. I like M&Ms and I like candy corn. I thought I’d found a win-win situation. Yeah…no.

I popped one in my mouth…ew. Okay what is this? It was a white M&M and there were also orange and yellow choices. I thought maybe each one tasted like each layer of a candy corn. Maybe I just needed to eat the yellow one to get a true taste (the yellow on a candy corn is my favorite part). But, after trying all three colors, I only came to one conclusion…

Candy Corn M&Ms are gross.

Each bite was more sickeningly sweet than the last, but never came close to ‘candy corn’. I’m not much of a white chocolate fan so my next thought was, “Maybe it’s just white chocolate with candy corn color. I’ll give them to someone else.” My 16 year old likes white chocolate and candy corn, so he was more than willing to ‘dispose’ of them for me. Knowing the way he shovels food like he’s starving 24/7, I didn’t expect the bag to last the day.

He ate one.
He handed the bag back to me.

“I don’t know what that is…..but it’s not white chocolate.”

How does that happen? How is it possible for one of the top treat companies to make something that tastes so bad even a teenager won’t eat it?

I’m going to go brush my teeth now.

What Halloween candy do you toss away each year? Which is your favorite?
