New Campaign Urges Overweight & Obese Women to Jumpstart Weight Loss Resolutions

resolve now logoFor many people, New Year’s resolutions don’t stick. Resolve Now: Stay Ahead of the Curve is a new campaign to inspire overweight and obese women struggling with their weight to take action now and talk with their doctor about a weight loss plan, including diet, exercise and other options, which may include a prescription medication, if appropriate, for obese, and overweight people with a BMI ≥ 27kg/m² and a weight-related condition.

We all know January is one of the most popular times to make resolutions to lose weight – maybe because we are so busy and over indulge during the holidays. Results from a U.S. marketing survey, led by Braun Research, Inc. and commissioned by Takeda Pharmaceuticals U.S.A., Inc., showed that of people who self-reported as overweight or obese, when asked if they have ever made a New Year’s resolution to lose weight, 72% of women said, “Yes,”1 and of those women, 79% have failed to successfully lose it.1

“I know how hard it can be to really commit to losing weight,” said Dr. Holly Wyatt, a renowned weight loss expert and medical director on ABC’s Extreme Weight Loss. “And too often people who wait until the New Year end up gaining more weight during the holidays, giving them even more weight to lose! That’s why I partnered with Takeda Pharmaceuticals U.S.A., Inc., to encourage people to make today the day to talk to their doctor to begin or continue the journey to lose weight. Bringing your doctor onto your team to discuss a program that is right for you just makes good sense.”

Sara Rue, a talented and funny actress best known for her leading roles on Impastor, Less Than Perfect, Malibu Country and Popular and recurring appearances on the CBS hit comedy, Mom, knows what it’s like to struggle with weight. Her journey to shed the pounds has also been filled with ups and downs.

“I realized in my 30s I needed to make a long-term change,” said Sara. “We all have that moment when we sit back and think about where we want to be in 5 to 10 years. I had this moment, and saw a certain image of myself – one that was healthy and comfortable in my own body, but that wasn’t my reality at the time. I knew I had to take action.”

About the Weight Loss Resolutions Survey

A marketing survey was led by Braun Research, Inc., a privately held marketing and public opinion research firm, to uncover insights into weight loss resolutions, motivations and challenges. The Weight Loss Resolutions Survey was conducted via telephone in the United States with 305 women, age 18 or older, who self-reported as overweight or obese. Participants were asked 12 questions delving into their weight loss resolutions, motivations, challenges, support systems and discussions with healthcare providers about making a weight loss plan. The results were weighted based on U.S. Census statistics.
