If you ask my five year old what his two favorite parts of school are, he’ll say math and library. While the math doesn’t translate as well once he gets home (“Homework?…can’t I do that later?!”) his love of reading never stops.
Since he was little, he has loved reading…even before he could actually read. Covers, illustrations, words dancing across the page; he couldn’t get enough.
Now that school is back in session, he’s really looking forward to his class trips to the library each week. He gets a little frustrated when they remind him there is a two-book limit; he wants to bring home an entire backpack full!
During the summer we made sure we didn’t skip a beat with reading and made sure to add new books to his collection at home.
Even then, he still had his favorites that he wanted to read over and over. It seemed like he found something new each time. A new laugh, a new interesting area of an illustration or a new funny voice to read in. It was like they were new all over again.
