The kids are out of school…and they’re already bored. Summer time often has parents scrambling for extra activities to keep everyone entertained. There are picnics, outings, day trips, vacation and more. Movies have become a great staple in the summer activity lineup for families. Not only can you find great family-friendly movies for the whole gang, but mom and dad can get away for a relaxing date night as well.

There is no way we could go through all of the awesome movies coming out this summer. So, for today’s Pick 5 line up – these are 5 movies you definitely need to put on your list.

1. FAMILY NIGHT: HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON 2

how to train your dragon 2Set in the mythical world of burly Vikings and wild dragons, and based on the book by Cressida Cowell, the action comedy tells the story of Hiccup, a Viking teenager who doesn’t exactly fit in with his tribe’s longstanding tradition of heroic dragon slayers.

When Hiccup and Toothless discover an ice cave that is home to hundreds of new wild dragons and the mysterious Dragon Rider, the two friends find themselves at the center of a battle to protect the peace.

2. Date Night: The Fault In Our Stars

3. Thrills & Chills: The Purge: Anarchy

It is the sequel to 2013 film The Purge. The Purge is a night where all crime is legal and all hospitals, fire stations and police stations in the United States are closed down for 12 hours. A couple (Zach Gilford and Kiele Sanchez) are driving home to their kids when their car runs out of gas just as the Purge commences, and they flee from masked attackers on motorcycles and minibikes. Meanwhile, a man (Frank Grillo) goes out into the streets to get revenge on the man who killed his son and a mother and daughter (Carmen Ejogo and Zoe Soul) run from their home after assailants destroy it. The five people meet up as they attempt to survive the night in Los Angeles.

4. Comedy – 22 Jump Street

22 jump streetAfter making their way through high school (twice), big changes are in store for officers Schmidt (Jonah Hill) and Jenko (Channing Tatum) when they go deep undercover at a local college. But when Jenko meets a kindred spirit on the football team, and Schmidt infiltrates the bohemian art major scene, they begin to question their partnership. Now they don’t have to just crack the case – they have to figure out if they can have a mature relationship. If these two overgrown adolescents can grow from freshmen into real men, college might be the best thing that ever happened to them.

5. Action – Dawn of the Planet of the Apes
