While Disney films are widely known for their breathtaking scenery, Planes: Fire & Rescue goes one step further by welcoming you into a brand new, and painstakingly detailed, piece of Americana. Art Director Toby Wilson, along with Director Bobs Gannaway, combined the iconic elements of Yosemite and Yellowstone to create the awe inspiring, fictional landscape of Piston Peak National Park.

Drawing inspiration and realism from two of the most well known US national parks, the Planes F&R team created a brand new historical oasis; replete with mountains shaped over the centuries, expansive valleys, powerful waterfalls, rivers and more. But it’s not just the visual – it’s the fact that the locations in this 2 mile park all have names, stories and play an integral part in the adventure.
Welcome to Piston Peak National Park…

[3] Thunderbolt Bluffs

Thunderbolt Bluffs serve as an awe inspiring separation between the Northern and the Southern sections of the park. The chiseled rock formations remind us of the planes who flew these skies many years before.
[4] The Grand Fusel Lodge

I bet you’re ready to get to your room and unpack after your long trip, right? Famed as largest log structure in the world, The Grand Fusel Lodge has everything you need to rest your propellers in style. Inspired by Yellowstone’s Old Faithful Inn, the Fusel Lodge features 327 rooms….I mean hangers. There’s ample room for campers, trucks and cars along with a runway and landing pads for airborne guests to arrive with ease. Make sure to have a complimentary detailing in the spa and don’t forget to grab a souvenir from the gift garage, Piston Perks.
[5] Piston Peak

No stay is complete without visiting the namesake rock, Piston Peak. Though, it’s really hard to miss. The formation towers over Piston Peak Park and is an amazing sight during an afternoon nature drive.
[6] Anchor Lake

The largest body of water in Piston Peak Park, Anchor Lake creates a mirrored reflection of all the beauty around it, including the majestic Rail Ridge. But, be careful while floating on these calm waters – you never know when Dipper, the heroic Superscooper, may swoop down beside you to refill her water supply on the way to a nearby forest fire.
[7] Rail Ridge

Serving as the towering gateway to Augerin Canyon, Rail Ridge is stoically similar to the resident locomotive, Muir, who carries visitors in and out of Piston Peak.
[9] Upper Whitewall Falls

Situated in the Northern end of Piston Peak National Park is a beast of water and rushing rapids: Whitewall Falls. This beautiful, time-carved location is not only an amazing sight as you ride past in the train, but also an often used practice area for the brave members of the Piston Peak firefighting team. If you’re lucky, you might just catch a glimpse of their maneuvers.
[11] Beautiful View | Air Attack Base

The view is amazing as the sun sets on the home of Piston Peak’s Air Attack Team. Home to the brave firefighters and smoke jumpers, this hanger stands as a reminder that not only does Piston Peak protect the safety of it’s guests, but also the lush landscape and wildlife living within it.
Piston Peak Wildlife

Before you end your vacation, make sure to take a nature drive or flight so that you can experience the wildlife of Piston Peak. There are 1400 Deer roaming the valley, but if you are lucky enough to catch a glimpse, you’ll be amazed at how graceful they are as they graze. Also make sure to look UP in case there is a family of Red Balsa Thrush close by. If you see one has fallen from it’s nest – don’t worry! A few pieces of tape and they’ll be back in the air once again (even if they aren’t flying quite as straight).
