Pulling Off a DIY Pedicure

By -

Memorial Day Weekend is already behind us, which means that summer is in full swing, and white pants are officially allowed back into our wardrobes! This also means that it’s sandal season, and time to bring those toes out of hiding. What better way to brighten up your look than to show off perfectly polished toes! Don’t worry ladies…if a professional pedicure doesn’t factor into your budget right now, you can pull off a perfect polish job at a fraction of the cost. Save money by stocking up on brand name beauty supplies like nail polish, files, clippers, and removers from online retailers like Image Beauty. Then, follow these steps below and you’re guaranteed a flawless look for less!

1. Use a cotton ball or pad and non-acetone nail polish remover to take off any existing polish that you already have on your toes.

2. Use a nail clipper to trim down any toenails that have grown especially long. File all nails to a uniform shape— square is usually the easiest and most flattering on feet. Also use a buffer on the top of the nails if there are any serious ridges.

3. Apply a cuticle cream to the nails, and then push the cuticles back with an orangewood stick. You can leave them as is, or carefully clip them with a cuticle trimmer.

4. Apply a clear, basecoat that will prevent the polish from staining your toenails. Be sure to keep this coat thin, or it may cause polish to peel prematurely.

5. Apply two even coats of your favorite color, letting them dry in between. For summer, anything neon or pastel…coral and ocean-inspired colors are great!

6. Wait five minutes and then apply a fast-drying top coat. Drag the brush across the tip of the nails to protect the edges from chipping.
