‘Rendezvous’ Trade Bead Jewelry from Bev’s Beadz {gift guide}

By -

From artisan Beverly Moore comes a jewelry line full of color, beauty and unique history. Using rich desert colors such as Turquoise, Lapis, Coral, Jasper and Amber along with metals, wood, bone, and glass – Beverly’s creations are both one of a kind and classic. After getting my custom wrist measurement, she hand crafted a ‘Rendezvous’ bracelet of leather and beads just for me.

Four Trade beads and our signature clay and Turquoise bead are the focal point of this leather cuff. Rusty brown leather, with dark brown diagonal lacing, this cuff is 1 ¾ inches wide with a 2 snap closure. Each bracelet is unique based upon the availability of the Trade beads.

What Are Trade Beads?

The history of beads dates back to our ancient ancestors. The earliest known beads were made out of readily available, simple materials including bone, ivory, teeth, seeds, stone, wood and a variety of plant and insect resins. It’s believed that the first beads were worn as protection against uncontrollable events and the forces of nature, as well as to show one’s status in the community and to enhance beauty. As bead making increased, and trade routes were established, the use of beads for trade began.

Bead lovers from all over the world now eagerly collect trade beads. The beads are collected, rethreaded onto raffia strings and sold to importers in the United States and Europe. Once considered to have no real value, these beads are now highly desirable, with some of the most rare varieties commanding substantial sums.

I couldn’t have been more impressed with the Rendezvous bracelet crafted for me. The leather is sturdy and smooth – the beads are authentic and beautifully colored. It fits perfectly and I can wear it with many different styles: from jeans and a t-shirt to a winter sweater and boots – the Rendezvous is the perfect accessory. I’ve received so many compliments and questions since wearing it. I love knowing that I’m wearing a bracelet that is completely unique – others crafted may be similar, but none use the exact same beads.
