Resurrecting a blog is almost as hard as starting one from scratch. I suppose it’s easier when you know you have another (well established) blog going at the same time, but it’s still daunting to say the least. I’m use to working with traffic to build page rank. With this site, however, I’ve got the page rank and I need the traffic! How do you work backwards with something like that?
I know marketing is, in it’s most basic form, the main target. That’s a given. But exactly how? I admit having a few years experience with a successful site has me chomping at the bit and wanting excitement on this site now now NOW! But I have to be patient…be smart…and be vigilant. There are two areas I’m going to need to spend extra time on: Search Engine Marketing and Web Analytics. SEM definitely is the cornerstone; if you don’t put yourself out there no one will know you exist. But you also need to watch the progress of SEM ventures through analytics so that you can see what is working – and what isn’t.
You can do this on your own (aka the hard way) or you can find quality services that assist and give you back a little bit of your personal time. I’ve heard a lot about Omniture SEM and seeing as it’s from Adobe then I’m sure it’s got the firepower for Marketing that it claims. It’s a great place to start even if it won’t do everything for you; no program will. Think of it like a screw driver. You need a screwdriver to get certain jobs done, but you can’t just lay the screw driver on the table and say “Fix it!”. You’ll be waiting a long time for that screw driver to get up and work FOR you. SEM systems are the same.
Once you find an SEM system that is easy for you to work with and seems to be having the results you desire: it’s time to backtrack and make sure about what is going on behind the scenes. Website analysis can also be done in many ways with many tools and methods. Again, Adobe is a leader in analysis as well. I have not used their software yet, but I can imagine it comes with some fantastic customer support and help for those just getting started in marketing their blog or website.
So now I know what tools I need. Time to get started using them.
What would you like to see here on REDKOI? Feedback is always welcome. It is, after all, the best marketing tool you can use.
