Being a designer by trade, I am constantly witnessing the change of blog design. It’s hard to resist a new tweak or a break through method – especially when you know how to implement it yourself. Mix that with the fact that my creative juices sometimes overflow and you’ve got the undeniable urge to change up the visual design of RJC …often. It’s half joke – half compliment among my blogging friends, “Kenda…you changed it again?! Well, it always looks cool.” So I guess I’m doing something right…right?
I recently partnered with MSN to explore and share the new MSN – “reimagined” for Windows 8. Hmmm… reimagined. It got me thinking about change and how all things need to adapt and grow. That brought to mind all of the many transformations RJC has gone through over time. There have been a lot. When I look back at how I first created this site two years ago and compare it to what it has become I’m amazed.

I can tell so much about myself and my work just browsing over the transformation (not to mention my many hairstyle changes!). I can tell when I was only following a trend (guilty many times) and when I went out on a limb and just let my own personality dictate my choices (didn’t always work…gotta be honest). Some designs lasted months while others were gone within a few days. Even this design (which I truly love) may change over time – and I hope it does! That means RJC is growing and reaching out to different areas, people, topics. One thing that will always motivate me, even when it comes to something as simple as a color scheme or an image placement: evolving. Don’t be scared to change, to shake things up. It could totally change the way you blog. If YOU don’t like your site….no one else will either. It’s a great lesson in putting yourself into everything you do.
How has your blog changed over the years?
