My hair isn’t straight. My hair isn’t curly. I have…well I don’t know what you’d call it. It’s a wavy, half curly, randomly straight mess. People claim to love it. I like it for about one hour after it dries. Then it just goes limp. But not everywhere. Oh no. Only random sections start to hang so I look like I just stuck my head out of a sunroof.

I remember when I bought my first flat iron. It was an amazing day. My hair was long then, but I continued to use a flat iron even after I went back to a short style. I now own three different irons. One for travel, one that is wet/dry and the one I started with. When Karmin contacted me and asked if I’d like to try their newest model, the Karmin G3 Salon Pro, I almost said no. I have a small collection already. But, after reading about their success with other hair tools I decided to give it a go.

In a nutshell I’d say this is a very nice flat iron that comes with some great features.
*I still have some uneven layers on the back from grow-out.
But the Karmin did a pretty good job with them.
What I love:
- The Case – This is the first flat iron I’ve owned that came with its own carrying case. But it’s not just a case. It also rolls out with a heat mat so that you can set your iron on it while you’re working with your hair, or let it cool off before packing it.
- The Controls – Unlike my other flat irons, the Karmin control dial is on the inside panel of the iron. This keeps me from accidentally hitting a button while I’m straightening my hair.
- The Max Temp – One of my irons goes to 410°. I thought that was great because my waves demand a high temperature. The Karmin G3 goes up to a steamy 460°F.
- The Weight – The Karmin G3 is really lightweight compared to my other heavy usage iron. Easier on your wrist and better when you have to work over your head.

What I’d Love To See Improved:
- The plate size – I like to work quick. The smaller the plate, the longer it takes me because I have to break my hair up into more sections.
- Heat Up Time – Of all my irons, this one takes the longest to heat up. It’s not so long that you’ll get bored waiting, but I’m spoiled by the speed of other models.
If you have extremely long or very thick hair, you may need to take a bit more time with the Karmin due to the plate size – but, it does give you a straight, smooth finish after the first stroke; no going back over the same hair more than once. I think this will be a great as my new travel iron or for quick touch ups before going out.
