There is no toy more iconic than the Slinky. We all have memories of climbing to the top of the stairs or front steps and letting the metal ‘creature’ flip and flop it’s way to the bottom.

The slinky was accidentally discovered by Richard James, a navel officer, in 1943 while he was working with tension springs for battle ships. When one of the springs fell to the floor and continued to travel end over end – he realized it was a toy in the making. 70 years later it’s become one of the most famous, and most long lived, toys in the United States.
