First Day of School with Tony Baloney

Little Man starts preschool in only one week. He’s very excited; a new lunchbox, new sneakers and a ton of questions daily. “Who is my teacher? Will it be fun? What will I do? Can I eat there? Do we paint? Can I bring rocks home from the sandbox?” I’m not sad or scared. Instead, I’m excited with him. He’s about to start a grand adventure. It brings back memories of his big bother’s first day of kindergarten.

Big Man turned 16 just days ago, but I still remember the little guy who ran to the pick up area at the end of each day, waving his newest drawing or ‘Great Job!’ sticker in the air.

I remember his first day clearly – he had no qualms about strutting right into the room like he owned the place. Not a tear was shed by me or him. He looked carefully until he found his desk (and the cupcake waiting for him. Yes, first thing in the morning. Things were very different 16 years ago!) He made friends in no time. He adjusted easily, loved the structure of a classroom and my refrigerator quickly filled up with conduct awards. I was so proud I thought I’d burst.

I had no doubts that Big Man would love school; he’d always been quiet and self contained. His little bother, on the other hand, might be more of a challenge. I’m sure Little Man will make friends, enjoy all of the activities and charm his teachers with his jokes. But….he’s also a high spirited alpha personality who doesn’t care at all for rules. He’ll need to learn how to follow directions and not brush them off (like he does when his big brother tries to direct him). He’s a lot like Tony Baloney.

Wait…who is Tony Baloney?

Tony is a little penguin with BIG expectations for his first day of school. He thinks that going off on his own like a big kid means he won’t have to follow rules anymore.

[zilla_alert style=”grey”] Tony Baloney is finally free from the tyranny of his many sisters only to face a new challenge–SCHOOL RULES! How will Tony ever follow them all? True to his resilient spirit, he discovers a first day of school filled with new friends, good fun, a few foibles, and some fantastic surprises!

Hilarious sibling dynamics make this book a hit with young readers who can relate to the “Bossy Big Sister Baloney,” “Mischievous Middle” Tony Baloney, or the “Bothersome Baby Baloneys.” Tony Baloney is poised to become a classic, character-driven series in the vein of Arthur, Fly Guy, and Frog and Toad.
